Racism
Okay guys this is a iffy topic and i was wondering where to put it but i am curious. Since Obamas election there have been many people making chars with his name Such as "Obamas daddy" Furthermore i have come up against some pretty......detailed racism in pvp as general taunting from RA and i was wondering has anyone else seen or been a victim of this? Despite being in a "all white" RA team when we lost one dude proclaimed " I beat all yall n*****" Now unfortunately this is not a isolated incident i have seen some pretty iffy convo's and ppl seem to be resorting to racist comments when they have the downside of the argument. For example everyone’s had a argument with a happy slapppy wammo and as soon as he's loosing the argument he/she resorts to low name calling. Well this name calling to me has turned into Racist abuse despite the abuse being totally uncalled for.
I want to know other ppls experiences on this and also there opinions in your opinion this thread could be a complete.. "wtf this aint true what’s he on about" thread. But this is a opinion of mine that i decided to share with guru and that simply is Racist abuse is on the rise since the election of a black president.
Please post your opinions.
To the mods feel free to close this thread if you feel it has no place on your forums its a iffy subject but with the response from a guild forum i am curious to how the guru folk will react.

I noticed a few times already that there are some people using racist remarks in a great temple of balthaazar. I have a suspicion that they are doing it on hacked accounts to get them banned but not sure about it...
Going to racist arguments in a discussion is another story. I saw it a few times. I think it happens with young people mostly but I am not sure. I think it is less visible on the European servers since most of the abuse there has a nationalistic character, I mean remarks are addressed to a given nation not a given race.

Thats the awesome thing about the internet.12yr olds can say whatever they like to whoever they like, wether they actually know what half of the slang/insults mean.
Obama being black is a tough subject.During the week or so before the election, all you had to do is load shing jea america 1 and instantly see a barrage of racial slurs and "VOTE OBAMA!!" in local chat.Hell, some people even made Obama xxxxx or xxxx Obama characters. But that certainly wasn't the start nor the origin of it.It was simply the fuel that stoked the fire.
I could easily rant about this stuff for a long time as I believe that real life ie:sexual orientation, colour, shape, size, lifestyle (generic groups that get picked on) doesn't belong in the game and same goes for politics. But alas, some people go out of their way to speak out against the "haters" yelling "gay" at everything "fag" at everyone or "omg ur black ",Only that has the effect of spurring the "hate" (if you will)
By trying to defend x minority the problem increases, people need to leave real life in real life

Im british too
The slurs and hate attention seem to change with the seasons,or go with the news.
Gay marriages banned in california (sp) more than likely made into the game and discussed somewhere
Election campaign:decent mix of "vote obama" and "obama die"
Don't honestly know the real reason, but it seems more prominent at weekends, holidays and days of particular interest

this reminds me of an incident not long ago,
someone using spanish to ask about something, something related to elementalist, I wanted to help, but I can't understand them, so i ask if they know how to speak english, as soon as i finished my sentense, I said: I don't understand you, can you say that in English? it was a bad idea, if you don't understand another's language, never say anything! because after I said that, bad words started to fly across my screen, you know the drill. I immediately select a remote server, to stay clear of all that stupid "rage out of no where"

Racism is natural and if this is the first time you've actually encountered it you have been closed off from everything.
You can't stop it, no one can stop it. RACISM.

Ahh, the reason why I avoid PvP and people. Insults insults insults.
Racism has only been brought up immensly, as Calista said, because of Obama. People think he will mess up, others are just devout McCain supporters. And the really stupid ones were hoping McCain to get elected and die in office so Palin would be President (honestly.... She thinks Dinosaurs are faked).
Anyways, although Racism won't go away completely, it should settle back down to the normal amounts in a few weeks.

I don't think McCain has any devout supporters outside of his immediate family... I mean he mailed in the campaign after he got nominated and expected to win. I still voted for McCain because I can't stand Barak Obama and the fascism he stands for.

People call others racist for not having any racist remarks, but just being against something which a group support. The word racist or racism is being changed to mean something else, much like climate change to mean global warming. People say climate change but they mean global warming or for environmentalism, such as saving tree's, animals, oceans ect.
And lets be clear that racism is not only towards non-anglo groups. The word 'cracker' can be used as a Guild Wars name and its not even censored in Guru either! But racism or other discrimination can occur in any group where the "different" people are a minority. Its always the minority that are put down by the majority of the group because they're 'different' in values, race, morals, religious belief and list goes on and on. As history can show, difference sometimes lead towards being 'evil' because the 'good' side will always be the majority.

Racism? IMHO, Obama must love racism because that's what really got him elected.
Just check out who voted for who. It seems that for one, very large, group his skin color was all it took to elect him.

But seriously? Policies aside, it is quite a milestone that Obama won. I think it's cool how people can still be inspired...

Pretty sure the Democrats would have won even if Saddam Hussein's corpse was their candidate. A black guy winning isn't all that momentous when it was an obvious win.

Source? Even still a large group of Jews also voted for Obama. However, the surge of black voters only boosted his overall winnings by 2%. I guess if a large amount of anglo's voted for an anglo president, that is also racism.
